Warner Bros games revenue down 41% during Q2 due to Suicide Squad

Warner Bros. gaming revenue is down 41% year-over-year, the company announced as part of its financial report for its second quarter of 2024, which is the three months ended June 30.

The company doesn't provide detailed figures within its Studios segment (which also encompasses TV and film), but said the decline in gaming revenue was due to the “weak performance” of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, especially compared to the success of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023.

Segment revenue as a whole fell 4% year-over-year to $2.45 billion.

Looking at the six months ended June 30, the decline is even more pronounced for gaming revenue specifically, down 66% (although again the detailed result was not provided).

Warner Bros.' second-quarter 2024 revenue as a whole reached $9.71 billion, a 6% year-over-year drop.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released on January 30, 2024, after several delays.

In February, CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels acknowledged that the title fell short of Warner's expectations and reiterated on the first-quarter earnings call that the comparison to Hogwarts Legacy's year-over-year performance was difficult.
