VR studio Archiact is closing down

Virtual reality studio Archiact is closing its doors.

In a statement posted on LinkedIn, the Canadian studio said it informed all staff yesterday, August 12, that it will be “closing in two weeks.”

Archiact was formed in 2013 and positioned itself as a “VR pioneer,” “dedicated to developing immersive reality games” including Doom 3: VR Edition, Journey to Foundation, Marvel Dimension of Heroes, and Evasion.

Over its 11-year existence, the team has published 35 games and “partnered with the industry's biggest names,” “pushing the possibilities of VR and mixed reality forward.”

“It's been an incredible journey,” the studio, which has developed titles for PS VR2, Meta Quest and Pico, said in a statement.

“Most importantly, (Archiact) served as a home for hundreds of talented developers for years. They believed in the power of games and the promise of immersive reality. And they believed in each other and all the players they interacted with.

“Thanks to everyone who made this trip possible.”

The closure follows a series of layoffs in January. At the time, the studio's own LinkedIn profile listed the company's size as ranging from 51 to 200 employees.
