Today's Connections Answer — Hints to Help You Solve It
Unlike our Wordle answer guide today, where we recommend the best Wordle starter words as a strategy, solving Connections relies on identifying connecting categories among 16 words. The difficulty level of each category is represented by a color; yellow is the easiest grouping and purple is the hardest. Once you make 4 mistakes in your guesses, the answers will be revealed, so the hints can be helpful.
If you need hints to solve the groupings, here are the themes for each, in order of difficulty:
- 🟨 YELLOW:Cram
- 🟩 Green: Jobs in catering
- 🟦 Blue: Electromagnetic spectrum
- 🟪 Purple: Things with pieces
These clues should help you find at least part of the answers to today's questions about connections. If not, you can continue reading for more detailed clues; or, if you just want to know the answer, scroll down the page.
Here's a broader clue: I would start with the positions in a restaurant, then think about the rays and the waves. After that, I would start filling in the things that have pieces.
Today's Connections Answers
So what are today's Connections answers for game #423?
Drum roll please…
- 🟨 To stuff: Jam, packaging, stuffing stuff
- 🟩 Jobs in catering: Cook, dishwasher, host, waiter
- 🟦 Electromagnetic spectrum: Microwave, radio, visible, X-rays
- 🟪 Things with pieces: Bride, octet, actor, exercise
I managed to complete today's puzzle, which is always satisfying when it happens. More often than not, I'm surprised at what the NYT Games team considers a green or blue category versus the others.
Yellow was an easy spot with jam, pack, ram and others. I think ram is a tricky word here because I don't think most people will think of it as a word that means to stuff.
Green was pretty easy after that with the cook, diver, host and server. I have to say I fell into the computer trap when I tried to get the server, byte, server and host to work. It didn't work.
I had thought about the electromagnetic spectrum before, but I hadn't thought about the visible until I got to the last eight words. It became obvious that the visible corresponded better to microwaves, radio, and X-rays than to the last four.
Purple makes sense and seems like the one you should get much earlier with bridle, byte, comedian and drill. Which I think is the mark of a good purple when the answers make you feel like you should have known that.
Answers to yesterday's connections
Reading this in a later time zone? Here are Connections' answers for game #422, which had a difficulty rating of 2.7 out of 5, according to the Connection companion.
Today felt like a good time to get a difficulty rating of 2.7.
I chose yellow from the beginning because I had fog instead of dandelion. In my mind, the connection was that things were described as cottony. Also, I was picturing the yellow dandelion and not the ball that kids blow around. I swapped the two and got a cloud, a cotton ball, and a sheep.
Most of the time when I see a guinea pig I immediately think of the test subject. So it was a quick discovery to see the participant, the subject and the volunteer.
I've been having trouble with some categories in the last few days, so disapproval, spirit, object, and protest came up. Having three of them next to each other in the grid helped.
Purple has become the word of choice along with “bull” horn, “fog” horn, “matter” horn, and “shoehorn.” I like this one. As mentioned above, it reminded me of Foghorn Leghorn, that grumpy southern rooster from Looney Tunes. I'm going to watch cartoons.
