Today's Connections Answer — Hints to Help You Solve It
Unlike our Wordle answer guide today, where we recommend the best Wordle starter words as a strategy, solving Connections relies on identifying connecting categories among 16 words. The difficulty level of each category is represented by a color; yellow is the easiest grouping and purple is the hardest. Once you make 4 mistakes in your guesses, the answers will be revealed, so the hints can be helpful.
If you need hints to solve the groupings, here are the themes for each, in order of difficulty:
- 🟨 YELLOW:Visual interface
- 🟩 Green: Burlesque outfit
- 🟦 Blue: Shades of beige
- 🟪 Purple: Homophones of the language
These clues should help you find at least part of the answers to today's questions about connections. If not, you can continue reading for more detailed clues; or, if you just want to know the answer, scroll down the page.
Here's a broader clue: If you know burlesque, start there. Then think about paint colors and presentations. Finish with languages.
Today's Connections Answers
So what are today's Connections answers for game #439?
Drum roll, please…
- 🟨 Visual interface: Display, monitor, screen, terminal
- 🟩 Burlesque outfit: Boa, corset, fan, gloves
- 🟦 Shades of beige: Chamois, cream, fawn, tan
- 🟪 Homophones of the language: Lounge, check, finish, tie
My yo-yo week continues with difficulties at level 2 but descending to level 3.
When I was younger, I had a number of artist friends who got into burlesque, so boa, corset, fan and gloves were an easy first category. I don't miss feathers.
From there I got the yellow category with display, monitor, screen, terminal.
I got stuck on the blue category because I don't think I've ever heard of buff as a shade of beige, let alone a color. The only reason I combined it with cream, fawn, and tan is because none of the other words fit on the color wheel.
I tried to make a bond between the nails work with Finish, Buff, Tan and Bask (a bit over the top, I know). But it did allow me to see some colors.
I had never seen the purple category of language homophones, but by putting it together in the last category, I got it. It's clever with bask (Basque), check (Czech), finish (Finnish) and tie (Thai).
Answers to yesterday's connections
Reading this in a later time zone? Here are Connections' answers for game #438, which had a difficulty rating of 2.8 out of 5, according to the Connection companion.
I'm telling you, this week, if the difficulty is 3, I'm on the puzzle. If it's 2, I'm stuck in front of the screen without saying anything. This is not my week.
To be fair to myself, I was in a hurry and very distracted by a five-year-old who had way too many questions for the time of day.
I managed to get the green category first with deck, floor, level and story. It's so boring I thought it would be yellow.
I have tried many times to create orbs with a globe, a sun, a moon and an egg. It is beyond me.
Somehow this led me to accidentally pick up newspaper names with globe, mirror, pole and sun. I don't know.
The yellow category finally came with the projector, reel, screen, and speaker. I will say that I spent most of the day thinking of the speaker as a “speaker” and not an audio device.
Purple, while funny, was the default word along with egg, moon, trail, and toilet paper. Maybe it would have given it away, but I would have preferred if they had used toilet paper instead of toilet paper. The verb toilet paper seems too formal.
Anyway, I'm hoping Friday will be a 3 so I can get back to it.
