We only recently learned about the astronomical price of Huawei's alleged tri-fold foldable phone, and now we have news that the Chinese manufacturer will be releasing the phone very soon.
According to a report from Chinese website My Drivers, spotted by GSMArena, Huawei CEO Richard Yu confirmed that the world's first foldable phone would be launched in September at an electric vehicle event in Shanghai this week. A customer asked Yu when the foldable display would be available for sale, and he simply replied: “Next month.”
Yu has been spotted in public with the triple-screen phone on several occasions. We don't know exactly what the new device will be called, but it's supposed to feature a massive 10-inch display when unfolded. Whether it'll immediately become one of the best foldable phones or a strange anomaly is unclear.
Surprisingly, the device that Yu was spotted with seems quite thin and it would appear to be quite lightweight. Chinese companies like Huawei and Vivo have had great success in making surprisingly thin foldable phones.
Despite the fact that the device has been seen in public, there haven't been many leaks surrounding Huawei. The company has surprisingly kept the phone under wraps.
With the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, we have some pretty thin foldable phones, but based on the images we've seen, Huawei's tri-fold could be as tall or thinner than those devices.
You and I may not be able to do that right when the phone comes out. The rumored price tag is between $2,800 and $4,900, in both Chinese yuan and US dollars. Of course, prices vary by region, but this gives you an idea of how much the tri-fold phone could cost.
It's crazy that the foldable phone is a viable reality, but it might be a while before we see a version of it in the US.
Samsung has developed several foldable display concepts, but there's no guarantee they'll produce one soon. Still, another company coming out with such a device could push Samsung to launch its version sooner.
